Podcast Sound Branding & Sound Design

[OVERVIEW]

Soundela works with podcast studios, producers and brands to create the sonic identity of a podcast and design sound around the stories within it.

From podcast intros, outros and sonic logos to music, transitions, atmosphere and story-enhancing sound design, we design the audio layer around the podcast you are already making.

[MORE THAN AN INTRO]

A podcast's sound can become part of what makes the show itself.

We create the sonic elements that establish its identity, while also looking at how sound can work within each episode.

This can include:

Sonic identity

Intros, outros, sonic logos, recurring sounds and a distinctive sound language for the show.

Music

Original music created for the podcast, or carefully selected existing music where it is the right creative choice for the project.

Transitions & segments

Musical transitions, stings and sonic cues that move between sections, topics and recurring features.

Story-enhancing sound design

Music, atmosphere, effects, texture and other sonic elements that support what is happening in the story.

Clips & archive

Sound design around interview clips, archive recordings and other audio that forms part of the story.

Ad & sponsorship transitions

Considered ways of moving into and out of commercial breaks while keeping the listening experience connected.

[HOW THE SOUND RELATES TO THE PODCAST]

Every podcast has its own character.

An entertainment show might need more personality and musicality. A documentary might use atmosphere, music and texture to deepen a story. An interview show might need a lighter sonic touch. A news or current affairs podcast may need a more restrained approach.

The sound should respond to what the podcast is.

[FOR BRANDED PODCASTS]

Not every podcast made by a brand needs to sound like the brand.

We help establish the right sonic relationship between the two.

A podcast might be a direct extension of an existing brand, carrying elements of its sonic identity into the show. Or it might be a distinct programme created by the brand, with its own character and sound.

The approach starts there.

[SOUND WITHIN THE STORY]

Sometimes the most important sound is not the intro.

It might be the music underneath a difficult story. The change in music as a story moves from struggle towards a positive moment. The atmosphere that places you somewhere. The decision to let a powerful quote stand without music.

A clip might need to stand on its own, sit underneath a speaker, or become part of the transition into the next part of the story.

These decisions become part of the sound design.

Not to change the story. To help it land.
